Blog Post #25 - Utilizing Point of View

I decided to use a point of view camera shot while entering the house in order to place the audience directly in the perspective of the character and create a sense of immersion and immediacy. By showing the events of the movie through the eyes of the character, the audience is able to experience the horror and fear of the situation in a more visceral and personal way.

I knew that using a point of view shot would be particularly effective because they create a sense of vulnerability and helplessness for the character and the audience. The audience is only able to see what the character sees and is unable to anticipate or prepare for what is coming next, creating a feeling of tension and uncertainty.

I also knew that point of view shots can also be used to create a sense of claustrophobia and confinement, particularly if they are filmed in tight spaces or in a way that emphasizes the limited perspective of the character. This can increase the sense of danger and horror and make the audience feel like they are trapped in the situation with the character. In this instance, the character opens the door to a relatively small space with very dim lighting, which further immerses the audience.

Overall, I used the point of view camera shot to create a sense of immersion and immediacy, increase the tension and fear, and create a feeling of vulnerability and helplessness for both the character and the audience. It is one of the other techniques that I used in my movie
to increase the impact and intensity of the scenes and make the audience feel more connected to the story and characters.
