Blog Post #21 - Intro Scene

Lighting is one of the most important elements of a horror movie since it can set the tone by creating a sense of unease, mystery, or foreboding. The use of dimly lit, shadowy environments can create a feeling of dread and uncertainty, while bright, harsh lighting can convey a sense of danger and intensity.

This was one of the biggest challenges in the making of some of the scenes in my movie. Getting down the perfect lighting without that many resources to work with was definitely challenging. This was even a bigger issue while filming outside when the character was presumably running away from something unknown.

Keeping the same lighting as the image above was definitely an issue in the intro of the movie. The only light source I could work with as stated in one of the previous blog posts were the lamps hanging on the front side of the houses. This made it difficult to keep the same lighting throughout the scene, the space that separated each house made the lighting exceedingly dim.

Looking at the picture below, you can clearly tell the difference between the lighting when the character is in front of the house compared to when the character is positioned in between the houses. I really did not have any other choice but to keep and use the footage with the contrast in lighting. Even using portable lighting behind the camera man did not work due to the lighting being tremendously bright.
